The fall 2012 student general assembly was held Sept. 5 in the William “Billy” J. Nicks Field house.
Alike to assemblies of the past, Wednesday was a major source of university morale, energizing the student body to push forward in their studies and emphasize the timeless Pantherland motto, “Prairie View Produces Productive People.”
The hill welcomed back the Mr. Prairie View 2003-2004, Reginald “Reggie” Bachus as the assembly’s keynote speaker.
Preceeded by several defining words of encouragement from student leaders like Student Government Association President Harrison Blair and the 2012-2013 Mr. and Miss Prairie View A&M University, Timothy Bryant II and Chasmine Cousins, Bachus began by invoking the innate energy of any true Panther with the traditional call and response, “PV, You Know.” He repeated the call until the Panther spirit resonated, echoing from his heart to the students.
Carrying over last year’s assembly theme, “The Best is Yet to Come,” Bachus opened by sharing his time on the hill, drawing students to him as not just another invited speaker but a fellow Panther, relevant and authentic.
Coming to the hill as a full university scholarship recipient, Bachus shared that although his educational requirements asked for a lot of time, he always moved to give back to the hill from the beginning, joining organizations and vying for titles that aided his growth as well as the university’s simply through his involvement.
Bachus used personal experience and the things he learned at Prairie View to convey his message.
He focused on the points: “my attitude determines my altitude,” “begin with the end in mind,” and “choices are seeds not trees.”
