The Lady Panthers trekked to Houston to take on rival Texas Southern in a pivotal match to determine SWAC tournament qualification. In a close contest, the Lady Panthers fell 2-1 to a very well prepared Texas Southern squad. The first half was a defensive struggle as both teams went scoreless and little offensive momentum was created by either team. The first offense came in the 55th minute when Ashley Garcia of TSU scored an unassisted goal. Texas Southern struck again in just six minutes as Jessica Borjon scored to make it 2-0.
From there, Prairie View continued to attack and finally struck in the 79th minute when substitute Rochelle Thomas came on and put one in the net to make it 2-1. A potential game changer happened for the Lady Panthers when Angelica Labella received a red card in the 87th minute. However, the Lady Panthers’ efforts fell by the wayside as the offense continued to struggle to make opportunities. The win allowed Texas Southern to improve to 2-2 in the SWAC and dropped the Lady Panthers to 2-4-1 in SWAC play. The last two home games for the Lady Panthers are Oct. 31 against Southern and Nov. 2 against Jackson State.
