A voting rally sponsored by the Student Government Association was held Oct. 13 at the Student Park. Several candidates running for various positions in Waller County came to encourage students to vote for them by giving information about themselves and their opinions on pertinent issues.
Sylvia Cedillo, a candidate for District Attorney, stated that changes are needed in Waller County and urged students to vote in the upcoming elections to bring about those changes.
“Students have to understand that the integrity of the justice system is at stake in the upcoming elections,” said Jim Sharpe, a candidate for the Texas First Court of Appeals. Sharpe said, “The appeals courts are where the legal opinions are drafted by which we are actually governed and Prairie View students in particular have a unique and important opportunity to make history in the elections by voting participation.”
It is estimated that about 90 percent of Prairie View A&M students are registered to vote.
