Prairie View raised more than $261,640 and had over 1,500 participants in the 7th annual Tour de Pink bike ride Sunday.
Bikes lined O.J. Thomas anxiously waiting to start the ride. Riders for the event were grouped according to the distance they were riding. The distance of the bike ride varied from 12, 23, 34, 47, 63, 80 and 100 miles. The students and volunteers were out rallying for the bike riders. The heavy rains could not stop them from being supportive of the event.
President of Omega Psi Phi Shon Outten said, “As a first time volunteer I would’ve never expected this event to be as big as it was and I really look forward to participating next year.”
Volunteer groups such as Brothers Leading and Cultivating Knowledge, the Honors Program, the Undergraduate Medical Association, Purple Jackets, and the National Society of Black Engineers were very helpful in this charitable event.
B.L.A.C.K. president Abimbola Daramola said, “My experience at Tour de Pink was definitely unforgettable, seeing all those students and volunteers out there cheering on the cyclists showed that Prairie View really commits to the cause to help find a cure.”
