Students visit annual open house

The Office of Student Engagement held an open house on the second floor of the Memorial Student Center last Thursday for all registered student organizations.
Beginning at 6 pm the open house showcased several fraternities, sororities, national societies, clubs, interest groups, service organizations and associations promoting membership into their organization and programs.
When asked what his organization had to offer Prairie View students member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. Devin Evans explains “we have several big events this year, but on the 12th Omega Psi Phi will be hosting a resume workshop to prepare students for the up coming career fair that takes place on the 19th.”
Along with Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., National Pan-Hellenic Council Organizations also in attendance included Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Council of Student Organizations that were present included Epsilon Gamma Iota, Gamma Sigma Sigma, Karnations Kourt, Inc., Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Music Fraternity of America, Inc. and Sigma Lambda Gamma, Inc.
Alongside religious group Baptist Student Movement (BSM) were special interests groups African Student Association, The Collegiate 100, as well as The Collegiate 100 Women, the Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students, and the Society of Women Engineers. Student service organizations included Campus Activities Board, The Gold Members Club and Panther Advisor Leaders.
Academic Council Organizations and Clubs in attendance included American Marketing Association, National Association of Black Accountants, National Society of MANRRS, Phi Beta Lambda, Prairie View’s Finance Association, Prairie View’s Physical Therapy Association, Pre-Veterinarian Club, Psi Chi National Honor’s Society, Psychology Club, and the Social Work Action Club.
The MSC ballroom was filled with student panthers waiting to participate in the many student organizations that are active on campus. When asked what appealed to her during the RSO Open House, Shatavia Brooks senior music education major said “the sound of the BSM choir was very beautiful and moved me to sign-up at their table “.
As a new member of the Gamma Sigma Sigma, Jennifer remarks on her experience thus far in her organization, “I love being a part of this organization, we are a community service oriented organization and we have a calendar coming out that will show are many charitable service events”.
When asked about her organization’s planned events for this year President of the Omega Gamma chapter of Zeta Phi Beta, Jazmine Jones explains “The first event we have this year is Greek 101, a seminar hosting with SGRho explaining the general need-to-know information about Greek life on Prairie View’s Campus. One thing that I’m very excited about this year is a new scholarship we are developing for prairie view students”.
Sigma Gamma Rho member Jordan Etters expresses her excitement about her organization’s participation in the CDC partnership with several of the nation’s leading organizations as they fight against HIV. “Also on the 17th and 19th we will be hosting a National Donor Drive on campus to register students who may be interested in donating their bone marrow”. Etters said.
