Senior marketing major Brittany Alexandra Daniel emerged as winner of the Rho Theta Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Miss 20 Pearls Scholarship Pageant on Thursday. This year’s theme was “Majestic Africa: A Woman’s Worth,” and was held in the Opal Johnson Smith auditorium.
Hosted by comedian Eddie-B and freshman communication major Chaney J. Ellis, the pageant began with an African tribal dance.
Fifteen contestants competed for the title of Miss 20 Pearl, including freshman business major Olesia Reshea Coleman, freshman accounting major Sha’Terrian Burks, sophomore double major in architecture and construction, Erica England, junior criminal justice major Tiffany Cox, sophomore major in agriculture concentrating in animal science, Helenia Hogan, Daniel, junior social work major Cierra Randle.
Human nutrition and agriculture food major Monica Niles, freshman secondary education major Ny’Relle Shenise Robertson, sophomore education and psychology major Tiniqua Wyvone Oliver, freshman mass communication major, Sharda Trachelle Bettis.
Business management and agriculture economics major Bianca Shanee Harris, accounting major Dishae Anquanett Elise, sophomore marketing and communication major Charity Charnelle Woodley, and junior criminal justice major Tiffany Prosper.
Pageant coordinator Glenisha Mcgee said “I know these girls will represent Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. with class, diligence, poise and loyalty”.
Contestants were judged on four categories: formal wear, swimwear, talent and question and answer.
After the formal wear and swim wear categories Coleman, Cox, Daniel, Randle, Niles, Bettis and Woodley survived the first elimination and moved forward to the talent portion featuring several heart wrenching monologues, wonderfully entertaining dance routines, and a self-empowering poem.
Soon after was the second elimination, leaving finalists Cox, Daniel, Randle, Niles, Bettis, to proceed to the questions and answer portion of the pageant.
Randle was announced Miss 20 Pearls 1st runner-up. Daniel from Oakland, Calif., was crowned Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Miss 20 Pearls.
After the crowning everyone in attendance was invited to the Que Mixer Reception held in the MSC Ballroom where congratulations and thanks were given to the contestants over delicious cake and cooling drinks.
When asked how she felt after being crowned this year’s Miss 20 Pearls, Daniel said, “I am overwhelmed. I feel great and I’m so excited.”
