The Career Center is preparing for Family Weekend at Prairie View April 7-8, which will provide an opportunity for parents to interact with the students, faculty, staff and administration.According to the Career Services and Outreach Department, activities will include class visitations, general sessions on financing education, academic assistance, recruitment and information sharing among the parents. Additionally, entertainment will be provided by the university’s top ten talented students in the Changing the World Talent Showcase/Contest, which will be sponsored by Students In Free Enterprise on April 7 in the MSC auditorium.
Parents of the Year Honors will be awarded on April 8 to eight parents who are members of the association. The selection will be made from nominations received from the students who must complete an application and write a 100-word essay on why their parent should receive the award.
Sponsors of the event are asking students to encourage their families to register and participate in the treasured tradition of parental involvement with the university. Glenda Jones, interim director for career services said, “This is a special event to recognize the parents and to show appreciation for the support the parents give to their students and the university. We are hopeful that we will have a good representation of parents to come to the campus for the activities.
