Cooper gets ready to host basketball camp

“Camp Cooper” is official. The first of many camps to be hosted by Prairie View A&M University’s head basketball coach Cynthia Cooper-Dyke will be held on June 26-30.The camp, which is aimed at girls ranging from grades 5-11, will enable them to hone their basketball skills in an entertaining atmosphere. The camp will be run by two-time WNBA MVP, Cynthia Cooper and her staff.

Cooper-Dyke possesses the dedication and celebrity needed to have a huge influence on the younger girls, not to mention the accolades to back it up.

“We plan to have a great time and the camp will give us a chance to introduce the university and its facilities to younger athletes,” said Cooper-Dyke. “I’m looking forward to instilling the passion for the game of basketball into the younger athletes.”

Cooper, who started playing basketball at the age of 16, helped push her high school team to win the championship during her senior year. During that year she was also named MVP.

Camp Cooper will be highlighted with day and overnight operations, which allows the athletes to participate no matter their schedule. The day camp will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will end at 2:30 p.m., while the overnight camp will also start at 8:30 a.m. but ends at 5:30 p.m. The tuition, which will pay for the instructions, lunch, and a camp T-shirt is $150 for the day camp and only $220 for the overnight camp. Prizes will also be given out.
