The spring 2008 yard show was held Monday in the William “Billy” J. Nicks field house. The show kicked off the Campus Activity Board’s annual Springfest activities.
Weeks of secrecy, work, patience, and sweat all came down to a coming out show, which casually introduced the new members of each organization to the student body. Several members of the Campus Student Organizations and Pan-Hellenic Council participated in the process this semester.
As each organization had its chance to present new members, a feeling of anticipation filled the Baby Dome from the center floor to the highest rafter. Family members, friends, faculty, and staff all waited anxiously to see the new members start a new chapter in their lives. “It was very entertaining, a lot better than last semester,” said freshman Jordan Blair.
Organizations that added new members were Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Sorority for Women, Gamma Sigma Sigma National Service Sorority, Epsilon Gamma Iota, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. After probate, a block party was held in the Memorial Student Center parking lot as a celebration for the members who took the challenge and responsibility of a lifelong membership in their organizations.
Neophyte of Epsilon Gamma Iota, sophomore Claribel Quiroz said, “I felt excited, I’m really proud of the accomplishments I achieved.”
When asked how it felt showcasing an organization to the student body, junior communications major Malcolm Jackson said, “It was an exciting and anxious feeling showing the student body that I’m a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.”
