Prairie View A&M University celebrated the opening of its $8.9 million Northwest facility on Grant Road Saturday.
Michael L. McFrazier, dean and vice provost of academic affairs for the northwest campus, said: “The Northwest Center is another addition to the lasting legacy of Prairie View A&M. We have produced productive people and we will continue to produce productive people through our Northwest campus. I am honored to be heading this monumental experience for Prairie View A&M.”
The 52,000 square-foot facility opens after previously being owned by the Lone Star, Community College System and will offer masters degree programs in accounting, educational administration, nursing administration, counseling, community development, and education.
The campus is scheduled to expand its academic repertoire to juvenile justice, sociology, communications, and engineering by 2014. With the opening of the Northwest campus, PVAMU is now able to meet the demanding needs of those aspiring to enter graduate school and recieve certification beyond Waller County.
Located in one of the fastest growing areas of Houston, the campus is currently home to 1.2 million residents, equivalent to the population of San Antonio.
Since the Northwest campus is an extension of Prairie View’s main campus, students are provided the luxury of attending the centralized and urban location while receiving the same services offered on the main campus.
