On Saturday, Feb. 2, the Prairie View A&M Panthers took on the Alabama A&M Bulldogs in Huntsville, Ala., hoping to get a .500 record in conference play.
The game was neck to neck in the first half; with Alabama A&M taking a 33-32 lead at the break. Foul trouble tormented the Panthers as Brian Ezeh and Blake Thompson collected their fourth foul early in the first half. The Panthers persevered, as they brought the game to a 54 all tie with seven minutes left in the game. The Bulldogs prevented a Panther comeback, by outscoring the Panthers by 14 points with 6:30 minutes left in the game, as the Bulldogs walked away with a 74-62 victory. Brian Ezeh and Freddie Edo led the charge for the Panthers, scoring 13 points apiece.
On Monday, Feb. 4, the Panthers were looking to redeem themselves against Alabama State after losing a close game to Alabama A&M. Alabama State took a 46-38 lead going into the half. Prairie View came into the second half offensively strong, shooting an impressive 63 percent from the field. Alabama State outscored the Panthers by four points in the second half, and held on for a 98-86 win. Prairie View out rebounded Alabama State 40-35 and shot 56 percent from the field in the contest. Ezeh had a career night for the season, scoring 26 points and dishing out seven assists. Ezeh is currently one of the conference leaders in nine categories. Tarrence Garrison and Jocoie Shivers scored in double figures with 12 and 13 points.
The Panthers will look to rebuild as they return home to take on the Tigers from Texas Southern University. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 9.
