In front of 12,000 crazed fans, Prairie View A&M University destroyed Lincoln (Mo) in Blackshear Stadium for the Panthers’ Homecoming game. Only up by 12 points at halftime, the Panthers did not allow the Tigers to score again while reeling off 21 more points of their own, en route to a 45-12 victory.
Quarterback KJ Black threw for two touchdowns for 274 as running back Donald Babers added two TDs of his own.
Prairie View opened the first quarter with 17 unanswered points, as the combination of Black and Babers seemed to be clinking on all cylinders. Lincoln RB had a message for the Panthers, as he dashed down the left sideline for a 75-yard TD, cutting into the lead 17-6 after a failed extra point attempt.
The Homecoming crowd was in sudden disarray when Lincoln’s Demarkis Smith returned a punt for a 15 yard TD to begin the second quarter. The Tigers attempt the two point conversion trying to regain the points from the previous missed PAT, but fell short once again.
With the score now at 17-12, PV Nation had some concern that they might be in for a Homecoming upset.
At the 8:08 mark in the half, Babers punched in a one yard TD run, bringing the score to 24-12 before the Marching Storm’s halftime show.
Making adjustments during the half, the Panthers didn’t hesitate to turn up the offensive and defensive fire power, as they poured 21 unanswered points on the Tigers in the third quarter alone.
The scoring began with back-up running back Devin Brown rolling into the endzone from four yards away. Less than three minutes later, safety Chris Adingupu had his own version of scoring as he returned an interception for a 53-yard TD. The Panthers ended their scoring day with a Black to Glen Upshaw laser to bring the final score to 45-12.
In the losing effort, Lincoln RB Joseph Snell rushed for 131 yards and one TD on nine attempts.
