You’ve heard every rap artist rap about it and even singers sing about it, but I believe Jay-Z said it best when he said “you can’t knock the hustle.”
But what does the word “hustle” mean?
If you look up the word “hustle” in the dictionary, you might find the slang definition means to “obtain money aggressively or dishonestly.” Every hustle is not obtaining money in an aggressive manner or dishonestly. In fact, even the president of the United States has a hustle.
Your hustle can be whatever you do best to make money. Whether it’s being in school, writing, or even reading books at your local elementary school, everyone has a hustle and may not know it. Some students view hustling in different aspects, while some see it as the only way to make it in a more money ruled world.
“If you don’t hustle, you won’t survive in this world today,” said senior Paul Simien. “Having a hustle is almost a necessity because everything revolves around money.”
In today’s society, having a regular 9 to 5 job isn’t enough for most people. After a hard day of work, some people still feel they have to find ways to make that extra “paper.” Junior agriculture major Bryant Doswell said, “My boss makes $80,000 a year.” After work, he still finds different ways to make money on the side.”
Here at Prairie View, you can find someone on their hustle at any given time and any given place. It’s not unusual for someone to walk up to you trying to get you to buy a CD, DVD, or even books. It’s a good way for them to make money, but it can also be their hustle to pay their way through school.
When people start their hustle, it can sometimes end up making them millions of dollars like it did for Russell Simmons or Sean Combs.
On the campus of Prairie View, young entrepreneurs and businessmen and women, such as Amere Hart Productions and GetMone Entertainment, are following behind these successful men.
Hustle means hard work. Hustling has become a way of life for some people. Either you can roll with it or get rolled over, because you can’t knock anyone’s hustle.
