SACS reaffirms PV

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges has reaffirmed the accreditation of Prairie View A&M University.

The reaffirmation of the university’s accreditation status came after a long series of interviews, evaluations, and self-studies done by the accreditation board and university officials. Administrators are impressed with the handling of the process.

Dr. E. Joahanne Thomas-Smith, associate provost and senior vice president for academic affairs, said, “I am especially proud of the manner in which our faculty, staff, students and alumni attended to the seriousness of the reaffirmation process. Adhering to the principles requires attention to detail and valuing of quality of efficiency.”

Counseling graduate student Crysta Mendes said, “I am glad that we are still accredited because I just started my graduate studies here after undergrad here last semester. This assures me that my graduate degree will be valid.”

Accreditation ensures that all persons served can be confident in the effectiveness and efficiency of the university. Without accreditation, schools may lose the ability to offer federal funding for students and affects the institution’s eligibility to obtain or hold specialized program accreditation. Students who graduate from unaccredited institutions may suffer, as they may not be accepted into employment or graduate programs.
