Women’s basketball guard Dominique Smith was injured in a recent home game against Alabama A&M University on Jan. 31. Smith is a senior out of Vallejo, Calif., and has been one of the team’s top players over the past three years helping the team win three SWAC Championship rings. Smith sustained a second degree lateral ankle sprain, which is a very common basketball injury leaving her out 3-4 weeks.
Smith stated, “This is perfect for our team, because this is a gut check because certain people are now looked upon to step up and it will build character.”
Smith has done prominent work this season, even though the team just started receiving back-t0-back SWAC Player of the Week nominations, and being awarded Heritage Sports Radio Network(HSRN) weekly National Player of the Week for her performances against Arkansas Pine Bluff and Alabama State Universities.
