The men of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. pulled off another great production at the 2005 Miss Lady of the Dove Pageant. Held on March 30 in the MSC auditorium, the theme of this year’s pageant was “An Evening of Enchantment.”
The master and mistress of ceremonies for the evening were senior Samuel Townsel and his little sister and soror junior Ivory Townsel.
The pageant was surely an evening of enchantment as the six contestants opened up the show with a dance, along with 2004 Lady of the Dove Kristi Dickens and various members of the fraternity.
Contestant #1 was Charity Smith, a 19-year-old freshman nursing major from Baton Rouge La. Contestant #2 was Adrienne Quickley, a freshman communications major. Contestant #3 was Chandra Watkins, a freshman psychology major. Others were contestant #4 Jayco Parahams, a senior accounting major, contestant #5 Jeremy Gant, a junior English major, and contestant #6 Britni Smith, a junior from Mesquite, Texas.
After the opening act the night quickly moved forward with the sportswear competition where the ladies displayed an array of different college styles.
The talent competition followed where the girls displayed their many talents from singing to dancing.
The crowd was shocked by the performance of Jayco Parahams as she spit an original rap to the audience. “The talent portion of the pageant was really exciting. It was surprising to see contestant #4 rap,” said sophomore Endira Hawkins.
The evening gown portion of the pageant followed as the six contestants rose from a pumpkin in the set of Cinderella.
“I thought the pumpkin idea was really creative, it was so neat to see the contestants come out of it,” said sophomore Danielle Williams. The ladies wore a plethora of evening gowns to correlate with their personalities.
After the evening gown competition, the contestants participated in the question and answer segment.
All six ladies showed evidence of the phrase “Prairie View produces productive people.” Sophomore Ryan Knight said,”All of the contestants were really sharp on their questions, they all seemed to have insight on their questions.”
As the evening began to close the winners of the competition were announced. Brittni Smith was named Miss Congeniality.
The best sportswear went to Jayco Parahams, and Adrienne Quickley was awarded best interview.
Jeremy Gant was crowned runner up, and Miss Chandra Watkins was crowned Miss Lady of the Dove 2005.
