Students compete in game of intelligence

Campus Activities Board and Epsilon Gamma Iota, Inc. Social and Service Organization tested the intelligence of students in various majors compared to that of Prarie View A&M engineering students last Tuesday in a game show titled “Are You Smarter Than an Engineer?”

This event was held in the Memorial Student Center Auditorium at 7 p.m. CAB decorated the auditorium stage to emulate the hit game show “Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?” with classroom desks for the engineering students and a questions screen. Junior mass communications major Jarren Small and sophomore accounting major Zakiyyah Willis hosted the game show.

The game show was set up in two rounds. Round one consisted of four categories: mathematics, history/political science, English, and science. Contestants were selected from the audience by using ticket numbers given upon entering the seminar. Questions were chosen from the various categories and answered accordingly via the questions board and the hosts. Round two was a quiz bowl.

This is the first time that CAB put on this seminar, and it is also the first time teaming up with Epsilon Gamma Iota. Freshman mass communications major Jarrick Brown said: “The game show was a very creative idea. It gave students with different majors an opportunity to get to know each other and things about each other’s studies. They should definitely do this again.”

Many students got a lot of the questions wrong but received help from the audience and the four engineering students. Some of the open-ended questions stumped even the engineering students. “The game show was fun and different, something the campus has never done before. Maybe we can do ‘Deal or No Deal’ next time, or maybe ‘Family Feud,'” said Joshua Grimes, a senior mechanical engineering major.

Campus Activities Coordinator of Speakers and Lectures Shamia Gaines said: “This was a great idea given to us by a member of CAB. We will certainly do this again with a different major.”
