The Lady Panthers volleyball team won three games in a row last week against Texas College, Grambling State, and Alcorn State.
The first competitors were the Lady Steers of Texas College. On Sept. 20. The Lady Panthers handled their competition with ease, winning in straight sets 30-16, 30-10, and 30-11. For the Panthers, Tamika Newman had 15 kills and Ashely Campbell followed behind with 12. Erin Fondel had 19 digs while Michelle Paul complemented with 18.
The Ladies faced two SWAC opponents on Sept. 21. Their first match was against the Grambling State Tigers. The Panthers would battle hard and win the match 3-1 with game scores 30-26, 22-30, 30-27, and 30-19. The Panthers had outstanding play from Tacho Richard who had six blocks and 13 kills, Shaun Williams with 11 blocks and nine kills, and Tamika Newman had seven blocks, 12 kills, and one ace. Laura De La Funte also helped contribute to the win with four blocks and 31 assists.
Their second match of the day was against Alcorn State. The Panthers made quick work of the Braves, beating them 3-0 with scores of 30-18, 30-15, 30-9, in only 58 minutes. Tamika Newman was a superior player contributing 11 kills, three aces, and four blocks. Shannon Harrison had five kills, two aces, and one block win.
Dig leaders were Milcah Whitaker with 12, and Erin Fondel with six. The Panthers will face Southern in the William “Billy” J. Nicks Building Sept. 27 at 6 pm.
