Former student performs at gospel explosion

Former Prairie View student Gay Arbuckle came back to her alma mater to kick off Homecoming 2005, "Panther Pride in 2005" at the gospel explosion held Sunday, Oct. 23. Although there was a a $5 fee unlike last year, the turnout was still nice. As the featured guest artist from Dallas, Texas, and former Baptist Student Movement member, faculty, staff and students eagerly awaited for her to hit the stage.
While the audience waited, they were entertained by none other than some of the finest talent on "The Hill." The master of ceremonies for the night was also a former BSM member. To get the spirit moving and to lead the audience in praise and worship was the University College praise team. After UC's praise team was the University Chorale under the direction of A. Jan Taylor. They gave their two selections, then the Baptist Student Movement walked onstage. As they finished "Incredible God" led by Michael Fuller and "Be Encouraged" led by Angel Porter under the direction of Rebekah Love, the Spirit of the Lord began to truly stir up in the place. "I felt really good to sing for the Lord and even better when I noticed how many people were there to support PV despite the cost," said sophomore Angel Porter.
Next up to perform were the PV Mimes. They mimed to an old gospel song called "Joy" and received a standing ovation. Following them was Brandi Terrell who gave her rendition of CeCe Winans' "Alabaster Box." Next were Mark Gordon and Eternal Life. They gave their two songs and then it was time for Gay Arbuckle to hit the stage.
Before she was physically seen on stage she belted out "The Star Spangled Banner" behind stage. As soon as she finished, she busted onto stage with much energy. She sang about five songs and really got everyone into the spirit. "Overall, I enjoyed the gospel explosion. I am glad that I went and my $5 was worth it," stated freshman Brittany Swain. "Starting off our homecoming week with God's presence indeed shows us favor so Happy Homecoming, Panthers and be safe," said senior Lunita Anderson.
