Student angered and concerned about security on campus

I am writing because my room was broken into this past weekend. This is the second time that this has happened to me. While I know that these things happen, I know you don't blame me for being upset. I know of four other students who were robbed this weekend too, and that is sad.

I believe that the school is not doing a good job of supplying the Village with adequate security. I have seen security in the MSC too many times doing nothing but eating. I have seen security flirting too many times with the female students. I have seen security witness fights without doing anything. I have seen security harassing students before they help them too many times, and I am tired of it. I am tired of seeing security doing everything except making me feel secure. I mean are they off on the weekends?

I also know that the Village is a separate thing from the school, under a separate company. I just feel that the school shouldn't just allow them to behave the way they do, and I think that it is only happening on this campus. The people at the desk are rude. You have to call back to back, day to day before you get anything accomplished. I found my door kicked in Sunday, and I am finally getting my doors fixed today (4/11/06). Then they have the nerve to raise the rent when nothing has changed.

We still have the same small rooms. We still have to deal with not getting anything accomplished until days later. We still have to live with the fact that we may be robbed when we go home for the weekend. We just have to "deal with it"! I am tired of it. That, among other reasons, is why I won't be staying on campus next semester or maybe why I won't be returning to Prairie View.

I know that you get a lot of complaints, but I am tired of complaining when it has solved nothing. Tuition is still going up along with other fees and rent no matter how much we protest. Everyone tells us that we need to have a voice, but when we talk about it we get ignored or overlooked. So at some point we just give up, and if that is what Prairie View is starting to stand for, then I don't want to have anything else to do with it.
