On the morning of Feb. 2 Prairie View's tennis team took a journey to Dallas, to compete against Southern Methodist University. The Panthers have a tough non-conference schedule, but know that each serve, back hand, forehand, win or loss will prepare them for the conference tournament. At the end of the last match, the Panthers experienced another loss. Senior Antoinette Majors said, "We performed the best that we could, they were just the better team."

On Tuesday, Feb. 5, the Panthers were set to play Texas A&M Corpus Christi here at Prairie View, but due to the weather the game was moved to Chancellor's in Houston. No doubles matches were played, so the outcome relied on the individual performance of each player. The women's side played hard, competed, and came closer to a win, but fell just short. It was the same story on the men's side, as they also lost, in a close match.

After the game, head coach Cochran said, "We weren't able to execute, but the game plan was solid. We're five matches in, and now we're finally playing."

In comparison to the last game, Cochran says the team has improved by "playing with no tentativeness."

Sophomore Kori Linzie said, "We played well, our intensity has pushed up a couple of notches, and we're working on our way to win SWAC.

The next game for the men will be Feb. 9 at 9 a.m. in Prairie View against Lamar University.
