An alluring and captivating experience filled the Willie Albert Tempton Sr. Memorial Student Center auditorium Feb. 12 as contestant Crystal Chatmon was crowned "Miss Psi Star." Contestant Antoinette Williams was awarded runner-up.

The nine contestants competed in the categories of introduction, talent, swimsuit, formal wear and question and answer during the first ever Kappa Kappa Psi Fraternity, Inc. pageant.

The event differed from other pageants at the university, providing the audience with two opening numbers and a performance by the university band, The Marching Storm, during intermission.

Instead of wearing the typical formal wear during the question and answer portion, the contestants dressed according to their major. Contestant Brittany Franks, a nursing major, dressed as a nurse.

"After so much preparation, the most anticipating moment for me prior to the pageant was not forgetting my introduction and withholding my reputation as a dancer in the first opening number as well as my talent," said Williams.

The other contestants did not walk away empty-handed, they received awards in varying categories.

In the end, students felt the first ever Miss Psi Star pageant was a success.

"I had fun the entire time of the pageant," said Candice Alexander, sophomore education major. "It didn't compare to the other pageants because it was so different. I wonder what's in store for next year's pageant."
