The Upsilon Lambda Beta Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta inducted three new members into its ranks Monday.

The honor society is designated specifically for English majors who have performed admirably in their core classes.

The ceremony was held in Hilliard Hall before a modest audience.

The inductees were Triniti D. Bunton, Jerrell Allen, and Whitney C. Harris.

Dr. Diljit Chatha and Dr. Tonya Scott oversaw the induction ceremony.

Scott shared information with the students about the M.A. English program Prairie View offers and Chatha officially inducted the candidates.

The society's motto, "Sincerity, Truth, Design" reflects the sentiment many English students feel about their commitment to their education.

"We were really pleased to add to our numbers for this chapter and hopefully these new members will go on to join Prairie View's master's program in English and we hope to build our program in the future," said Ayana Young, president of the Upsilon Lambda Chapter.

Young read the oath of membership which officially introduced the students to the society.

The ceremony concluded with closing remarks by Chatha after the certificates, pins, and honor cords were presented.

The collegiate honor society was established in 1924 and offers the students who are members an opportunity for scholarships and the chance to attend conventions with other members across the country.
