Right or wrong: Spates shares real life experience and stories on the issues women face.

With the help of University College advisor Phyllis Spates and executive director of Loving Yourself to Stop, Delilah Wittington, the Delta Alpha chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Inc. hosted the interactive seminar "How to Be a Lady: The Implied Rules of Womanhood" Wednesday.

Spates began the seminar with a recitation of the story of Ruth in the Bible, explaining her virtuosity, how she presented herself, and how "gleaning" relates to women in present times.

Gleaning is gathering or picking up leftovers or scraps on farmland. Spates used this to metaphorically explain how women pick up leftover men.

Following Spates, Wittington began her presentation by telling her story about attending Prairie View A&M University, dropping out, and now being an alumna of the University of Phoenix.

She spoke about casual and professional presentation and being on time, which is 15 minutes early, to interviews and preparing for the near and distant future.

"I really enjoyed the seminar," said freshman nursing major Jodeci Foster. "It was really great how she talked about everything from how she met her husband to presenting yourself in the workplace. I was really enlightened about having confidence, knowing my worth, being independent, doing my job as a student and having a positive self image."

The overall theme of the seminar was focused on the most attractive aspect of a female: how she takes care of her business.

"I learned that in the end, every woman wants to be viewed as a lady, no matter what," said senior biology major Katrina Stephens. "I think having many viewpoints was key to the success of the seminar and being able to interact with the speakers was great as well."
