Employers enforce healthy lifestyles

Season after season, Americans catch the flu and other seasonal viruses and call into work. As a result, employers are starting to become more concerned with the health of their employees.
Although being ill is a part of everyday life, especially during the winter, there are a few different ways people protect themselves. Some go to their medical doctors, use over counter medicines, while others use home remedies.
Conflict occurs when employers make it mandatory for employees to get immunization, particularly flu shots. If employees refuse to get the flu shot, employers are threatening to fire those employees.
Freshman nursing major Jasmine Nicholson said, "I do not think people should be fired. I feel that is too harsh and people should be able to choose what they put into their bodies, especially when so many people in today's society do not choose to get shots."
Sophomore mass communications major Adrian Truehart agreed.
"Not everyone gets sick and has a weak immune system, so they should not be required to get the shot," said Truehart.
Americans across the nation are enraged and believe making the shot mandatory to keep their jobs violates their freedoms that are supposed to be guaranteed to them by the US Constitution.
However, there are students who are required to get the shot and do not seem to mind it.
Junior civil engineering major JaMarques Jones said, "As a member of the US Army, there are a list of shots that are mandatory, which includes the flu shot. All soldiers have to because we do tours overseas and are sometimes exposed to other diseases. I get that Uncle Sam is trying to protect us, but if I were a civilian, I would be upset that my job could be on the line because of a flu shot."
