Miss Prairie View pageant reaches 44th year
The 44th Annual Miss Prairie View A&M University scholarship pageant was a night filled with beauty, talent, and class. The theme for the pageant was "Tales of the Taj Mahal." The pageant contestants were Breanna Green, Morgan Roe, Chelsea Chore, and Meghan Guidry. The pageant began with a performance from the four contestants and Miss Prairie View A&M University 2012-2013, Chasmine Cousins.After their presentation, each of the contestants introduced themselves to a cheering audience. Cousins then welcomed those who attended and kicked off the ceremony. The judges were introduced by the master and mistress of ceremony, Domonique Washington and Lakisha Alomaja followed by the swimwear portion of the competition. Contestants presented outfits and figures to the judges and pageant attendees.Following the swimwear portion, special recognitions were given by Washington and Alomaja. Special recognitions included recognitions of parents and family members of the contestants as well as other organizations who were represented throughout the audience. After this portion came to a close, the talent competition began. Contestant Green performed a dance routine inspired by Asian culture. This added a unique feel to the entire pageant.Once the talent competition ended, there was a brief 15 minute intermission followed by the evening gown competition. Each contestant was escorted on stage by members of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. The contestants presented their evening gowns to the audience. With elegance and class, Green graced the stage with a more classic look. The impromptu interview was the next portion of the competition, testing the contestents on how quickly they could respond to a question drawn from a selection. As the impromptu interview competition came to a close, Miss PVAMU 2012-13 Chasmine Cousins gave her farewell, with special recognitions to her parents, family, royal court, office of student engagement, and the entire PVAMU family. The heartfelt moment was one you could not forget. As her reign officially came to a close, the time for a new Miss PVAMU to be crowned was near. During this time, points were tallied and the winners for each of the categories were determined.As contestants waited in anticipation, the winners of each of the competitions were announced. The winner for Miss Congeniality was Roe. Miss Industrial went to Green. The talent winner was Chore. The swimwear winner was tied between Chore and Guidry. The formalwear winner was Green. Winners for the Impromptu Interview were Green and Chore. Following the announcements, Chelsea Chore was announced as first runner up and Breanna Green was announced as Miss Prairie View A&M University 2013-14.
