Representatives from various majors, organizations, and services were present Tuesday at the 12th annual majors' fair hosted by the University College. The students were able to receive information and address any questions or concerns they had.
The main purpose of the fair was to provide students with exciting academic opportunities to explore.
The event was targeted toward students who are uncertain about their majors, but all students could benefit.
"I appreciated having the opportunity to go to various booths. It made me realize that I made the right choice to come to Prairie View; this is the gold standard," said psychology major Carmen Purvis.
"It was awesome. I met a lot of people and learned about my major," said Kia Thomas, a senior accounting major.
The colleges provided students with descriptions of the majors that are offered. There were also degree plans for the students to view.
"The majors' fair help students make better-informed decisions, be more academically successful and complete their degrees in a timely manner," noted majors' fair program coordinator Fred Bragg.
"It was very informative and helpful," said Terrell Ellison, a junior engineering major.
Students were able to hear from other students who are majoring in areas of interest or a member of an organization that interests them.
Rachael Drake, a junior biology major, worked at the Undergraduate Medical Academy booth, and provided information about the program to the students.
Drake said, "I enjoy informing the students about the numerous opportunities that they have to offer students interested in the medical field."
Several high schools also brought students to the event. High school students were given more information about particular majors that interest them, so that they will be better prepared to choose majors when they enter as freshman.
There were awards given to the most attractive booths. The Student Academic Success Center, a tutoring service, won first place this year.
Derick Taylor, a sophomore biology major, says, he feels lucky to have had the chance to witness the many academic offers that Prairie view has to offer.
