Quarterback controversy brews on the Hill

After losing the season opener 63- 14 to Bethune Cookman, we all wondered "What is going on with Prairie View's football and Who are the quarterbacks?"

We all may have seen QB Jonathan Troast last season playing while former QB KJ Black was in- jured.

Troast starred as the start- ing quarterback on Sunday's game, throwing a total of 116 passing yards with throwing one touchdown in the first quarter, but as a major downfall threw for two interceptions.

Troast stated, "We had some communication problems during the game, fortunately its

something that can be corrected." Troast didn't play his best game but there still is more games to be played and he is confident in

that he can start the game. He said, "Our other quar-

terbacks played well, they are young so they are still learning some things, but they just need to continue to play well and take ad- vantages of opportunities."

Jerry Lovelocke is a red shirted freshman quarterback and this is his very first season playing with the Panthers, and to most he

did very well. Lovelocke threw for a total of 19 yards scoring his first touchdown in the second quarter of the game. Lovelocke was able to show students, faculty, and his team what he was working with while playing in the third quarter of this game.

Newcomer De'Auntre Smiley is playing as a true fresh- man QB of the 2011-2012 football

season. "I think my other quarterbacks are doing a good job, It was a couple of careless mistakes that I did see on the film that I know we

can improve on" Smiley said. Smiley made his debut in the fourth quarter throwing a total five yards and a total of two complete passes for the time period he played in the game.

Hopefully it all comes to- gether as far as communication and play readings to make a bigger come- back for next week's game against the Texas Southern University Tigers on Saturday at Delmar Stadium a 7 p.m.
