CAB gives students what they want
Campus Activities Board is a student run organization that satisfies the entertainment needs of the students of Prairie View A&M University.
CAB functions as the voice of the student body and is responsible for boosting the morale.
Game night, poetry night, talent shows and Humpday are some of the activities the organization hosts.
"This city is pretty boring, and CAB is put in place, so you don't have to go way off campus to have fun, and that helps you network with your fellow Panthers better," said Tyra Cannon, a junior education major.
This organization also gives students the ability to have an impact on the events that happen on campus.
Students construct festivities from the ground up singlehandedly.
"You've got events planned by students for students, so it's like all that stays in one student bubble," said Orok Orok, CAB advisor.
The organization is not only about planning activities; it helps its participants make moves in the career world as well. The demanding schedule and event organizing helps the members attain skills.
"It's a gateway to fine tune your interests or desires," said Orok. "You might begin your career with CAB and end up working for a similar program or agency."
CAB is a networking tool for its members. It provides them with comfort to come out their shell into a welcoming environment.
Many CAB members have built friendships with others that last a lifetime.
"Some people think black people are all the same, so it's a culture shock when you come here cause of the diversity in the personalities and joining CAB help that transition easier," said Jarren Small, a senior mass communication major.
CAB has succeeded in making the university a fun and inviting place.
"The real reason CAB is the best organization is because all the events we put on are free," said Ty White, a senior former CAB chairman.
