Panthers seal Homecoming win against Brave Hawks

 Topping off an exciting week, the Prairie View A&M University football team defended the home on the gridiron, defeating the Alcorn State University Brave Hawks in a homecoming showdown at Blackshear Stadium.
 The Panthers kept a lead the entire game capitalizing on every opportunity Alcorn presented for them to score.
On offense Fred Anderson gained a game high of 105 yards and only lost two yards with his longest drive being 64 yards.
Sophomore De'Auntre Smiley had an incredible comeback, throwing 251 yards, four touchdowns and, went 16 of 20 in passing.
Prairie View and Alcorn battled the first quarter to gain the first lead in the game.
Spencer Nelson's 26 yard run followed by a kick by Chris Barrick gave the Panthers a 7-0 first lead with 1:28 on the clock. The Panthers' defense was impenetrable first quarter, gaining two sacks and 42 tackles.
Senior defensive end Jarvis Wilson led his team in tackles with five solo tackles in the game.
With the help of quarterbacks sophomore De'Auntre Smiley and junior Jerry Lovelocke, the Panthers had a total of 233 rushing yards and 302 passing yards, gaining no less than 10 points every quarter.Jacoby Anderson made an amazing play catching a 37-yard pass from sophomore De'Auntre Smiley to increase the Panthers lead 17-7 in the second quarter. In the second half Deandre Cooper shocked Panther fans receiving a 50-yard pass from Smiley to increase the Panthers lead to 38-10 .
The Panthers ended the game 52-37, taking the win at homeand moving up in the SWAC conference. His strong performance against Alcorn earned Smiley player of the week honors.
Fans have been waiting all season to see the Panthers to play this brand of football. The Panthers have a losing record, despite holding lead in each of their games in SWAC play.
The Panthers need to continue to this strong play down the stretch as they have been gaining much needed ground with every win. The Panthers are now 2-3 and with several teams ahead of them faltering, hope still remains for the SWAC championship game.
