AKA Halloween social provides outlet for fun creativity
The Zeta Gamma chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. held a Halloween social on Wednesday in the MSC ballroom.
The social was titled, Kome as You Aren't, and it had a variety of Halloween games, laser tag, refreshments, and a costume contest.
Students came in a variety of costumes from the usual clown and superheroes to the uncommon costumes like a Christmas present.
"It was a great turnout and an amazing event. I had the chance leave my booth to get candy and play laser tag," said Jazmine "4.0" Lofton, the emcee and DJ of the social.
Zeta Gamma president Ashlee Sherman says the Akas decided to host a social for Halloween instead of a seminar because they wanted to show students that there is a more modest way to have fun on Halloween without being tasteless and harming to themselves and others.
"We usually do something serious like a seminar around this time but we decided to do something fun and cool," said Amari Holland, a senior nursing major and vice president of Zeta Gamma.
Lea Smith a senior architecture major, thought that social provided a better alternative to the usual events that are held on Halloween.
"This was a really creative and fun way for students to meet people they didn't already know while playing cool and fun games," said Smith.
Whitney Williams, a junior social work major and AKA member, believes that giving students the opportunity to socialize in a responsible manner prevents the bad outcomes of other Halloween events.
"It was time to do something different and fun," said Williams. "We would do this again because everyone seemed as if they were having a good time."
