The annual Greek homecoming step show took place in the Baby Dome on Friday.
The Greeks were able to represent their organizations and compete through step routines they made up.
There was very minimal participation this year with only six organizations competing. However, it was still a great show with very creative skits involved. AT&T even participated in the step show where by giving $1,000 to the fans choice, which could be texted to a number to be tallied for votes.
In the Certified Student Organizations (CSO) part of the competition there were two competing organizations, Kappa Kappa Psi and Phi Mu Alpha otherwise known as Sinfonia. Both music oriented organizations had very rhythmic step and didn't miss a beat.
Kappa Kappa Psi did a step routine with a theme based off the Eddie Murphy comedy, Coming to America, where they acted out the opening dance number, and to incorporated Prairie View A&M current events.
Phi Mu Alpha followed with their theme of Eastside High School from Morgan Freeman's classic film Lean on Me. Their performance ended with their signature Too Smooth stroll that got the crowd raving. Although Kappa Kappa Psi came out on top with first place in the CSO competition, Phi Mu Alpha proved to be good competition.
In the Pan-Hellenic competition there were three competitors for the fraternities including: Omega Psi Phi Inc., Alpha Phi Alpha Inc. and Kappa Alpha Psi Inc., and in the sorority division the ladies of Zeta Phi Beta Inc. competed alone.
The brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi Inc. of the Texas A&M University chapter were the first to participate. Their routine was themed after ninjas, their performance was short of perfect with many mishaps in their performances but they still was able to pull out the fans choice award winning the prize money.
Next were the brothers of Omega Psi Phi Inc., who gave a performance themed off the movie the Transformers, where they truly transformed the crowd with their very precise steps and stepping patterns, as defending champions they definitely had something to prove to their just recently back on the yard counter parts, Alpha Phi Alpha Inc.
They were followed by the Alphas, who played police officers in their accompanying skit. They truly saved the day for their fraternity by winning first in the step show since it was their first year returning on the yard.
The Alphas exploded on the stage in dance and triumph when they were annouced as the winners.
Junior computer science major Clifford Perelion said, "I was not surprised when Alpha Phi Alpha won the competition. They out of all, felt like the makings of a real step group. They stomped in style and in sync, their group leader bellowed out with a thunderous roar, and best of all they flowed into their varying routines almost as if they were one."
Lastly the ladies of Zeta Phi Beta Inc. gave a performance themed after jail birds telling their tales of past lovers who they have murdered, who were all represented by the divine nine fraternities.
They concluded the show very well, and by default were the winners of the trophy in the divine nine sorority competition.
