Woodard competes for the NCAA Divison I title
Outstanding triple jumper Preston Woodard sealed the deal for the 2013 NCAA Indoor Championship at the Alex Wilson Invitational in Mishawaka, Indiana, at the University of Notre Dame.
The Sweeny, Texas, native locked in his second appearance for the NCAA Indoor Championship setting career best for himself and Alex Wilson Invitational with a record of 52-8 ¼ stretching away from the competition.
"My biggest issue in competition is my landing phase which is something that really holds me back from going further. I plan on working on that before I leave for Arkansas," said Woodard
He will go into the NCAA Indoor championship being tied for eighth in the NCAA Division I ranking, according to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Competition will be held in Fayetteville, Ark. , March 8-9.
Last year in his first appearance during the Indoor NCAA Championship he finished ninth, but was not able to make the podium.
"I fully intend on being on the top of the podium this year taking the competition by storm. Until then I will jus train," said Woodard.
To improve his performance Head coach Chris Clay said, "He has to stay consistent in all three phases, stay balanced and stay strong through the entire jump.
He should be familiar with the competition there and having experience in nationals last year should help."
