Lady Panthers defeats Texas College in double header
Prairie View A&M had little trouble on the diamond Tuesday afternoon as they swept Texas College 16-0 and 22-1 in doubleheader action.
Tuesday's game was originally scheduled for Wednesday but the game was moved up a day in order to move ahead of projected thunderstorms.
In game one, sophomore pitcher Meah Maddox threw a no-hitter as an eight-run second inning broke open the game in a 16-0 win.
The Lady Panthers found their hitting stroke as they belted out 15 hits with five players recording two hits apiece. Alissa Navarro led PV with four RBIs followed by three from Alexis Lang.
Alexus Colbert had a solid game with three runs scored. Maddox won her first game of the year as she struck out eight with only one walk in a five-inning performance.
PV had even more success at the plate in game two as they closed out the doubleheader with a 22-1 victory in five innings.
Navarro and Peyton Simms recorded home runs for the Lady Panthers while Kelly Scruggs led the way with a 4-for-4 performance which included four RBIs and three runs scored. Colbert, Leanna Flores and Lauren Grun finished with three hits apiece while Cally Falls, Navarro, Maddox and Brenicia Woods recorded two hits. Navarro also had four RBIs followed by three from Simms.
Sarina Rios earned her first career win at the mound for the Lady Panthers as the junior struck out four on five hits.
PV returns to the diamond this weekend for SWAC play as they'll host Southern in a three game series on Friday and Saturday. The first game is scheduled for Friday at 3 p.m. followed by two games on Saturday at noon.
