SGA cheating allegations addressed

The Prairie View A&M University Student Government Association judicial board announced its ruling in the recent presidential and vice presidential election cheating scandal Wednesday afternoon.
 Priscilla Barbour and Jarrick Brown are the SGA 2013-2014 president and vice president elect.
 Demario Lowe and Justin Warren were named the 2013-2014 student government president and vice president last Tuesday, but the election results were immediately contested. The decision was reviewed by the judicial board.
There was an unanimous vote naming Barbour and Brown president and vice president.
"I have seen the decisions and details of the judicial board," said Demario Lowe, the president-elect before the contests were made last week. "I will choose to appeal the decision and see what happens from there."
According to chief justice Darius Kelley, the presidential and vice presidential candidates have seven days to file an appeal based upon the decision made by the court justices.
From there Kelley will choose a board that will decide whether there will be another hearing. The judicial panel board will then review the decision of the judicial board, review the hearing and the case, and will look at new information if there is any.
Appellants are only able to appeal based upon four issues: gross error in procedure, violation of student rights, new evidence, or extreme bias on the part of the judicial board.
"If we believe that the decision needs to be modified, we will send the recommendation for modification to the judicial board for reconsideration," Kelley said.
This is the first time Kelley has dealt with an issue like this.
"Because this is the first time that this has ever happened to my knowledge, I am not positive of my parameters," he said.
