The Lady Panthers bowling team started their season off strong earning the third place title in the Bossier City Shoot-Out in Bossier, La. last weekend.

"I think this year we did better because we had to fight from the bottom. We had battles to win so we didn't give up," said Phebe Jackson, a senior business management major.

Jackson finished with a 193 pin average during the four games played and gained the tournament's Most Valuable Player. She also bowled the tournament's high game of 231 pins.

"It feels good to start off making all-tournament and MVP," said Jackson. "It's a big deal and I'm proud that I made it."

The Lady Panthers had to dig themselves out of a hole after the first day of the tournament falling behind during a 1 win- 3 loss record. They fell to Steven F. Austin with a close 12 pin loss but bounced back with a victory against Grambling State.

"We said we were going to fight until the end and not give up. We didn't want to let the first day bring us down so we decided we were going to come home with something," said Jackson.

During the second day of tournament play during the Baker games, the Lady Panthers finished with a 2 win-2 loss record defeating Grambling and Louisiana Tech while losing to Alabama State due to an unsuccessful 7th game set. The Lady Panthers' highest pin count during baker games were against Grambling (178, 203, 197, and 201) and Louisiana Tech (217, 201, 200, 216).

Coach Glenn White said, "It was good to return home with a trophy from our first competition of the year. We have some good freshmen that were getting their first experience of tournament play and we're expecting great contributions from them this season in addition to our returning players. It was exciting to see one of the seniors step up and have an exceptional performance. We're now preparing for the Winston-Salem Tournament in North Carolina this weekend."
