There are many diets that Americans try in efforts to lose weight. One that seems to be taking over is the Dr. Atkins' diet of high protein and low carbohydrates.Many restaurants and popular fast food eateries have added low carb entrees to their menu because of the drastic spread of Americans practicing and living a lifestyle the Atkins way.

One of the restaurants participating in the program is T.G.I. Fridays. They have added an Atkins menu of spinach dip and Buffalo wings appetizers all under twenty-five carbs. You can order a burger bun-less, as well as tuna wraps, broccoli, a char grilled salmon fillet, and grilled chicken Caesar salad.

At Burger King and Mc Donald's you can order bunless served on a plate with a fork and knife, they are serving salads as well.

Subway is even participating. There are Atkins' Nutritional endorsed wraps for people on carb-controlled diets. This includes a chicken bacon ranch wrap, and a turkey and bacon melt. These Atkins' friendly wraps are available in the United States and Canada. They only have eleven grams/net carbs or less. Net carbs are total carbohydrates minus dietary fiber. The wrap itself is made with whole wheat and has five grams/net carbs. Aside from the wraps, Subway is also offering Subway fresh salads, which include a garden fresh salad, Mediterranean chicken salad that only has nine grams of net carbs. Their cookies are even offered in low carbs.

Other than fast foods and other dining facilities, some companies of name brand snacks are offering their products in low carb. For instance, Krispy Kreme plans to offer low-sugar doughnuts. Frito lay is introducing Tostitos Edge, a low-carb version with sixty percent less carbs. Heinz has a new low carb ketchup with one gram/carb per serving, which is seventy-five percent fewer carbs than the traditional Heinz Ketchup. Hershey's is also introducing a carb friendly candy bar called the one-gram sugar carb bar. This new candy bar contains twenty percent fewer calories than Hershey's conventional milk chocolate bar.
