CAB addresses derogatory terms
Campus Activities Board hosted an event called, "Why she got to be a b-word and why he got to be a dog."
Sheleah Reed, executive director of communications, hosted the seminar and Ivan Butler, sophomore marketing major, led the production.
Butler said, "I want students to learn the real reasons why men call women the b-word and why women call men dogs."
In the open discussion, the men challenged that they treat women by the way they dress. If women dress appropriately, then they will be treated with respect but if women dress inappropriately then they will be treated in that manner.
Myron Billingsley, associate vice president for student affairs and one of panel members, said, "We treat women as they allow us to treat them. Men don't always treat women like this, there are some nice men out there."
Odis Favors, a freshman political science major, said, "This seminar has helped me relate more to women and to have a trustworthy relationship and bond with them."
During the seminar, some of the main points were the different ways these words are used and the fact that they can go toward both sexes.
Orok Orok, adviser of student activities, said, "I challenged CAB and students to take the conversations with them and make conscious decisions about what they say."
