PALS host record-setting UC step show
Panther Advisory Leaders (PALS) hosted the annual UC Dorm Step-off, where buildings 40 and building 36 emerged as the winners in the William J. Nicks Gymnasium on April 15.
Since this is Prairie View A&M University's largest freshman class, it was the biggest step off to take place having more teams than any other step show held at PVAMU.
The annual step-off began in 1998, and has previously been hosted by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. However, this year it was put together solely by the PALS under the leadership of Vice President Joshua Grimes, and President Angela Gloston, who also hosted the show with Trent Johnson.
"This is by far one of the largest step shows I've ever seen and been able to be a part of, since there are 13 amazing teams. I purposely didn't want to judge because I knew the competition would be so stiff," said Grimes.
Judges for the competition were Harris D. Brown, a graduate student studying community development, Orok Orok, Program Coordinator, Ashley Ward, a graduating senior civil engineering major, LeAndre Sanders, senior computer science major, and Britni Andrews, a graduate student studying counseling.
The other teams that placed were female buildings 39 coming in second place, and first time-participants building six of University Village taking third place. The male teams were buildings 43 placing second, and building 46 taking third place. Each of the winning teams each received trophies and a year's worth of bragging rights.
DJ Mike-n-Ike provided music during the show and at the after party which ended at midnight.
