We're here for you
Quick question, how many of you actually realize this newspaper is for you?
No really, I'm sure you guys know that it is a "student" newspaper, but do you really understand that The Panther is a student-ran-paper produced by our student fees to inform and entertain the students?
I ask this simple question because it was brought to my attention that the majority of the student body believes we, the producers, are using the paper for our own personal reasons. Now while all of us here at The Panther regularly contribute for different reasons, I guarantee none of us have forgotten that our duty is to appeal to you, our student peers.
I thought that through my editorials I had expressed several times our desire, as a staff, to hear from you guys about what you may or may not want, like, or agree with. When I say that, I'm not just writing it down, I really do mean it.
It's disappointing and a little discouraging to hear that some students are unhappy with our product but afraid to tell us. PLEASE, PLEASE WRITE A LETTER TO THE EDITOR! No really, we will print it.
Anyone who knows me personally could tell you I'm a person who values differences in opinion and interest. I will not pretend to always agree, but if I don't, understand that you will know. I believe we all should be that way regarding our university and everything that comes from it.
Why pretend? Let's not fake it, just let us know.
Only once this entire semester did anyone come and tell the staff a concern they had with the paper. Once?
I'm no genius, but I'm pretty sure PVAMU has more than one student enrolled. Going to my new favorite phrase for this school year, I must add let's do better.
Once we start standing up for ourselves and the interests of our peers, it will only be easier to do the same to our administrators. If you're unhappy, or even support something, be vocal about it. Don't let people assume they know what you think. It may bite you in the end.
