Be A Lady First

Ladies, we must be careful what guys we entertain at PVAMU.

Life is not this happy, bliss-filled place we would like to think it is. People are not always genuine and oftentimes, our best interest is not a priority for them.

I recently watched a message given by Juanita Bynam on women and our understanding the true "process" of what it takes to be in a complete, meaningful relationship with a mate. Too often we find ourselves in a situation we are not prepared for and we reach a level of vulnerability we cannot handle.

Bynam says that it is important for us to figure out the right priorities for us, as young women. We need to stop and evaluate ourselves, what we have to offer and what we seek in return. She stresses that it is vital to steer away from the right now and look for those qualities in a mate that can last a lifetime. Marriage and stability is about companionship. If our companion doesn't make us happy, how will we survive past the honeymoon?

Now understand that when I say honeymoon, I am not only referring to post marriage but also the happy moments at PV. Those days in the Phases, Cypress, wherever. We become too caught up in how that person looks or how others perceive them that we forget what's most important. How about integrity? Religious beliefs? Life goals? Cleanliness?

Ladies, we must be careful! Some of these guys are like poison. Sometimes it's a game to see which can pull you first, other times it's to see how far we allow them to take our bodies. Infections are serious, and sadly we are a prime target.

Let us be that "hater friend" who makes sure we have our girls back. Listen to that friend who doesn't like or trust anyone; she can see through that predator trying to get your cookies.

Let's preserve our hearts, bodies and reputations. That guy who stole our heart is not always a great person. Do not fumble in temptation. That piece of candy may make you sick. Understand that while the fun you're having is great right now, these decisions will affect you for your lifetime. We must open our eyes! Oftentimes, that guy is giving us signs that he's tired of us and we continue to sink ourselves in deeper. If he stops calling or those nice words seem to lessen, take note. It will only spare you pain in the future.
