Webb recites "I Have a Dream" speech
In celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Office of Student Affairs hosted "I Have a Dream Speech...Revisited" for Prairie View A&M University and elementary school students in the community on Jan. 22 in the All Faiths Chapel.
David Webb, Lieutenant of Operations for the Department of Public Safety and award winner speaker, recited King's famous speech for the crowd in an effort to motivate listeners to be positive and use their gifts.
"It's the greatest speech ever written in my opinion," said Webb. "He was a folk hero of mine at a young age; King inspires me."
Webb said that he dedicates time to practice King's speech annually so that he can continue to reenact it for others. Webb said that it's always a joy for any audience but especially for elementary school students.
"It's really a passion of mine. They look at him as someone who was so long ago and I try to bring him right back. I try to make you believe you were there," Webb said.
Graduate student Harris D. Brown served as master of ceremonies and felt the program was extremely beneficial to his peers.
"It's important to get a recall of our past history so people can get a feel of Dr. Martin Luther King's speech and the civil rights movement," Brown said.
