Let's do better
Panthers, let's do better.
In my last editorial, I suggested that I was the reason the football team has been so successful with their seasons lately. I didn't think that I needed a disclaimer stating that it was a joke, but obviously I ruffled some feathers. I'm not basic; I do know that I am not out there practicing everyday and banging up my body during games, so of course, the credit goes to the team. However, is it that serious? Did I really even need to write that?
Recently, a complaint was made against the staff and the questions chosen to be used for 20 Questions. The real issue seemed to be that the factual news coverage on the event was not made as "important" as the comments splattered in the gossip corner, and that the news story was not long enough and did not include pictures. Fellow Panthers, not everyone can get a picture in the paper. Why view the situation as a negative one? Yes, 20 Questions is a bit messy, but those submissions come from the student body. Please readers, notice the disclaimer that says "these are not the views of The Panther." It is just for entertainment. Make sure you check yourselves too, and check that it is not solely a problem when you are targeted and pure comedy when it is someone else's misfortune. That's not very nice or fair.
My point is that I think the entire university is failing at being positive and optimistic. If statements are made that do not apply to you, press on. We are adults; things shouldn't be taken so personally. We need to strive now more than ever to be united as one. There are forces against us as an entire institution, and we cannot break apart and turn against each other. Try saying "hi" to a stranger and not frowning if they speak to you. There is no camaraderie here. Let's be better, let's want better.
Like I've said before, I welcome all letters to the editor and viewpoints on concerns you may have as students. If you are unhappy with The Panther, TELL US! We publish the paper every week in hopes of pleasing you.
