The Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers is an organization that started in 2008.
Nationally, the main purpose is to advance technology for humanity. However, on campus the main focus is to help people with career development and networking.
Although electrical and electronic engineering are both parts of the same branch on campus, students do not have to be an engineering major to join IEEE.
This organization tutors students from science, technology, engineering, and math majors.
As tutors, members of IEEE help students improve their technical skills, professional development, and get internships. IEEE also help with career development, offering tips on ways to build resumes and improve presentation skills.
IEEE recently hosted a professional development seminar, which helped students with resumes, professional dress, hygiene, and taught them how to properly conduct themselves in a professional environment.
IEEE also hosts social events such as movie nights.
In fact, IEEE will be hosting a movie night on the Nov. 16 at the new Electrical Engineering building in room 139 at 7 p.m.
IEEE will be attending an upcoming conference next semester, where it will bring more attention to PV and potentially more employers.
Community Service is also a big factor in this organization. IEEE participates in PV Go Green, PAW, Tour the Pink and planning on participating in the Relay for Life.
As of now there are a total of 80 members and the organization is still recruiting.
Junior computer engineering major Isaiah Archie said, "I'm a part of this organization because I it's like a family. We all help each other and work together to become successful young people in today's competitive world."
