Bowling team performs well in tourney
The Lady Panthers bowling team continued their season Oct. 20-21 in the Bossier City Shoot Out tournament in Louisiana. Four SWAC universities and one WAC university, Louisiana Tech, participated in the tournament at Holiday Lanes bowling alley. The tournament got off to a slow start after a two and a half hour delay with the games.
Prairie View lost to Texas Southern in game one 839 total pins to 913 total pins and beat Arkansas Pine Bluff in the second game 876-635 total pins. In the last three team games, the Lady Panthers lost to LA Tech 809-909, Grambling State 767-834 and Jackson State 777-922.
On Sunday, the Lady Panthers won two of their Baker games beating Arkansas Pine Bluff in an easy four games totaling 746 pins and Grambling State University with 724 total pins.
"Although the team struggled on the first day of the tournament winning only one of five team games we did turn things around the next day by finishing with a hard fought 2-3 record," said head coach Glenn White. "Not only did we defeat Grambling State for the first time in several years but defeated them with a four win sweep in a best of seven Baker match."
It took the Jackson State Tigers all seven games to eventually beat Prairie View 1306-1212 in the Panthers' fourth Baker set.
"We also lost a hard fought battle to Jackson State three wins and four losses taking them to a deciding seventh game and losing in the 10th frame. This is a team that finished second in the tournament and tied with TSU with the same win/loss record; they also played for the SWAC Championship last year," White said.
Freshman Kristina Sadler started strong Saturday, bowling 206 in the first team game and 200 in the second, eventually totaling 847 pins throughout her five games. Houston native Misty Dawson led the team in total pins with 868 averaging 173.6 pins.
"I think this young Prairie View team took another giant leap in its preparation for the first SWAC Round-up coming up in two weeks," White said.
