President Wright advises women about common issues
President George C. Wright, hosted a seminar for women in the Don K. Clark Juvenile Justice building on Tuesday.
Wright discussed several issues that affect women in their daily lives. He touched on issues such as money, work, and relationships. The young women in the seminar intently listened to and even laughed at the jokes Wright made.
Wright encouraged the young women in the audience to save money as much as possible because emergencies may arise. Wright also encouraged students to use credit cards sparingly.
Senior criminal justice major Desiray Louis said, "I like the way President Wright and his wife deal with their financial situation. There was a time when he was in charge and currently she handles the money. President Wright seemed to really be laid-back in the way he views money, which isn't typical for men. I loved getting a chance to see him up close and personal before I graduate."
Wright spoke about what an important role work has played in his life and may affect the lives of young women in the audience. He discussed how devoted he was to his work and how sometimes it affected his relationship with God and even his family.
He discussed the importance of equality in his relationship with his wife. He relayed to students the importance of being flexible and compassionate in the way each person in a partnership relates to the other.
Wright also stressed the importance of spending time together saying, "My wife and I love various recreational activities. We both love sports. We do sporting things. We go to the movies. If you name a new movie that has come out, we've seen it. We also love to travel."
Wright said, "We believe in giving gifts to the other."
He described how he and his wife give each other cards, jewelry, and other small gifts as tokens of affection.
Sophomore nursing major Katiea Tonge said, "I really enjoyed going to this event. It was really refreshing to see President Wright in a more personal light. I had no idea how funny he really was. I think he gave some really great pointers to all of the women in the audience."
