Rockeymoore speaks at lecture series
Alumna reflects on college days
Maya Rockeymoore graced Prairie View A&M University with her insight Tuesday as the second speaker in this semester's Students Participating In Transcendent Knowledge lecture series.
Junior history major Teri Wilkerson said, "Dr. Rockeymoore said a lot in such a short time. I learned the importance of being a student leader. It's not just about your GPA and academic success but also about giving back to those who've helped you along your way."
Rockeymoore inspired the lives of Wilkerson and others at the event hosted by the Office of Special Programs and Cultural Series. This was their sixth SPIT Knowledge speaker of the year.
The president and CEO of Global Policy Solutions, LLC began her presentation by addressing the reason Prairie View has been in the newspaper for the past 30 years; voting rights and registration. She took the audience back to 1991 when she was apart of the "PV 19" march and to her days of activism here on Prairie View's campus where she earned her undergraduate degree.
She said, "I was proud to see the 2008 voters march. It is imperative that students vote and advocate voting around the campus. Hindrances to the black vote have been consistent over time. We need to be stewards to ensure the continuance of our legacy."
