Students, faculty and guests gathered Tuesday, March 18, in room 108 of the John B. Coleman Library to salute Women's History Month.

Nationally themed "Women's Art, Women's Vision," the university teamed up with librarians to host the event, focusing on exhibiting various styles of art and connecting them to women and their impact in society.

Lauren Kelly, library art curator and art history adjunct professor was the speaker. Kelly's personal theme was "The Power of the Female Voice in Visual Art."

"Ms. Kelly's speech touched on art that uses lines, shapes, forms, textures, colors, motions and lights," said Kimberly M. Gay, reference and instruction librarian and also chair of special events in the library. "My favorite part was when Lauren showed her latest creation. It is a DVD composed of animated Barbie dolls."

Many were able to learn and be entertained during the afternoon lecture.

"Lauren's speech inspired me to realize I can see the body of art, mind of vision and soul of images," said Gay.
