General assembly continues theme "The Best is Yet to Come"
A general assembly with the theme, "The Best is Yet to Come" set a positive tone Wednesday for the fall semester in the William "Billy" Nicks building.
Michael L. McFrazier, vice provost and dean of the Northwest Houston Center, said: "The best is yet to come however, reality will set in. Your current actions will determine your future. There are no excuses, no shoulda, coulda, wouldas. You must move with haste and know what you're made of. You're one of God's greatest creations."
To continue in the inspirational theme, Donald Brown, a Prairie View alumnus who graduated with a bachelor's degree in human performance in 2003, a master's in education in 2006 and a doctoral degree in education leadership in 2009, motivated the students as he shared his story of starting out as a special education student and finally being where he is now.
"I went from Special Ed. to Ph.D. and I want to thank Prairie View because this school is the best school and has molded me to be the man I can be," said Brown.
Brown was promoted from special education classes at a young age and came to Prairie View on a football scholarship. He gave three steps to being and remaining successful.
Brown said, "Step one is to keep God at the center. Without God, I would be and have nothing. Step two is to have a plan and remain determined. Once you have it, no one can take it from you. Seek out good mentors and have a strong sense of purpose. That's step three. The end result will be ‘the best is yet to come.'"
