Hispanic club to be established
Students make Prairie View cater to their needs
With an increasing population in the Hispanic community on campus, students at Prairie View A&M University are working to establish a new Hispanic club, Hispanic Business Student Association, to build, unite and promote the Hispanic heritage on campus.
In a response to a survey that a Hispanic club would keep Hispanic students involved in something throughout their college experience, the club has received 100 Hispanic students' signatures on a petition, the first step in establishing a new organization.
Their mission statement is "Coming together today, to build a better tomorrow."
The recognition of the club has not yet been established, but founders of the club are working hard to get the club accepted by Prairie View. The club plans to officially launch by next semester.
"It all depends on the dean, whether he approves of the club or not. And once we receive the approval, sponsors have to be searched for," said Nancy Villareal, senior accounting major. "HBSA offers several benefits. It is a motivational movement for the members. It provides scholarship news for minorities, and will look great on the extracurricular section of members' resumes."
The president of HBSA is senior business management major Alejandra Castillo and the founder of the club is Daniel Perez, finance professor in the College of Business.
The prospective members said the club will also represent Prairie View in a positive way by showing the public that Prairie View minorities have a voice, too.
